Bruno's Story
On June 30th, 2023, my life changed in the most unexpected and beautiful way. That was the day I adopted not just one, but two miniature horses—
Bruno, a tiny foal only ten days old, and his gentle mother, Mocha. Their arrival wasn’t just a random decision, it was part of a healing journey.
I already had a miniature horse named Patch, who had recently lost his companion. For months, I had searched for the right friend for him. When I met Bruno and Mocha, I knew I had found exactly what we all needed.
Patch had been grieving ever since his best friend passed away. Horses, like people, can feel the weight of loss, and Patch was lonely in a way I couldn’t fix on my own. I started looking for another miniature horse to keep him company, but it wasn’t easy. I didn’t want to just bring home any horse. I wanted one that would truly belong in our little herd. When I came across the adoption listing for a miniature mare and her young colt, something immediately clicked. I knew that Bruno and Mocha were the ones.

The day I met Bruno and Mocha was warm and clear. Bruno was so small, barely up to my knees, with a soft coat and curious eyes that sparkled with life. He stayed close to Mocha, who watched protectively but calmly. I imagined how much joy they’d bring Patch, and how they might even help him heal.
Bringing them home was both exciting and nerve-wracking. I brought them to my home to quarantine before moving to the barn I keep my horses.
I had to learn a lot—how to care for a nursing mare, how to handle a foal, and how to gain their trust. But every day brought something new. Bruno grew fast, becoming more playful and curious, while Mocha remained calm and wise.
After Bruno was trained to be led with a halter and lead, they were moved to the other barn.
They met patch and he was so happy to see other miniature horses. Seeing Patch come back to life made everything worth it.
Adopting Bruno and Mocha has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. They’ve brought joy and healing not just to me, but to Patch as well. They’ve taught me so much. I look forward to watching Bruno grow and continuing to share this journey with Mocha by his side. They truly changed my life!
